Spain is Alastair’s third Expat home. After growing up (a bit) in South Africa, at 22 years old he moved to the UK for seven years, and then to Australia in 2000.
He has South African and Australian citizenship and is a Spanish Permanent Resident (a red tape challenge achieved mid-COVID lock down).
His expertise is Spanish visas, citizenship, residency, and tax (yup – all the fun stuff).
Alastair lives in Catalunya / Cataluña / Catalonia with his wife Alison, and son Sam. When he’s not working, he’s hiking in the mountains, swimming in the sea, or having a beer in a chiringuito (beach bar).
Good Patatas Bravas and a cold beer in the sun are hard to beat.
Alastair has done his full driver’s license test 4 times. Passing first time in South Africa & Australia he failed in Spain with 35-years’ experience, requiring a do-over (and yes, Alison passed the first time)…
No pasa nada – Literally translated as “nothing happens”, but really means ”no problem”, “don’t worry” or “it’s all good”!
