Health Insurance in Spain

Costs, Compliance and Plan Comparison

  • The One Sentence Everyone Reads: Most consulates publish one line about insurance requirements. We’ll unpack what it actually means in practice: no exclusions, no waiting periods, no copayments, no coverage limits.
  • Why Cheap Isn’t the Same as Compliant: Two policies can look identical on paper. We’ll show you exactly where insurers cut costs, and which of those cuts will get your application rejected.
  • Pre-existing Conditions: Your obligation to declare and why it matters.
  • Same Insurer, Different Network: Two people with the same insurance brand can have completely different hospital access. What to check before you assume your policy covers the care you’d expect.
  • The Payment Structure Problem: Monthly billing feels convenient. For visa purposes, it’s disqualifying. We’ll explain why paid-and-settled-upfront is the requirement, not a preference.
  • “It Worked for a Friend”: A policy getting approved once doesn’t mean it was compliant, and old gaps don’t stay buried. What resurfaces at renewal, and what to do if you’re flagged.

Living in Northern Spain: Asturias and Galicia

What life in Northern Spain really looks like, plus a look at regional tax. Join, Leap Key, and Patricia for a real look at living in Asturias and Galicia, with Al covering tax considerations for the region.

  • Two Regions, Two Different Climates: Asturias and Galicia sit on Spain’s Atlantic coast, with real seasons and weather closer to Ireland than the Mediterranean coast most people picture when they think of Spain.
  • What It Actually Costs: Rent, groceries, and everyday expenses in this part of Spain, and how they compare to Costa del Sol or Barcelona.
  • Life Outside the Expat Hubs: Fewer English-speaking neighbors, more everyday integration into local life. What that trade-off actually looks like.
  • Regional Tax Considerations: What’s different about filing taxes here, covered directly by Al.

Living in Costa del Sol: Estepona, Malaga and Surrounding Areas

What life on Spain’s southern coast really looks like, plus a look at regional tax. Join Jessica and Carin for a real look at living in Costa Blanca, Estepona, and Malaga, with Al covering tax considerations for the region.

  • Three Coasts, Not One “South”: Alicante’s Costa Blanca, Estepona, and Malaga sit on the same stretch of coastline, but they’re three different price points, paces, and crowds.
  • What It Actually Costs: Rent, groceries, and everyday expenses in this part of Spain, and how they compare to the north or to Barcelona.
  • Life Inside the Expat Hubs: More English-speaking neighbors, faster integration into expat life. What that trade-off actually looks like.
  • Regional Tax Considerations: What’s different about filing taxes here, covered directly by Al.

Which Spanish Visa Fits You?
Visa Types and Fast-Track Options

Spain offers several ways in, and the right one depends on your income, work situation, or family setup, not a generic checklist. This session walks through the main visa categories and how to tell which one actually applies to you.

We’ll also cover a route specific to certain passport holders: nationals of Ibero-American countries, the Philippines, and a few others can apply for Spanish citizenship after 2 years of legal residence instead of the standard 10. You still need a valid visa to live in Spain during those two years, and we’ll walk through what that looks like in practice.

  • The Employment Fork Whether you have a remote job, a Spanish employer, or no employment at all is the biggest factor in which visa route applies to you. We’ll walk through how each situation points to a different category.
  • Family Changes the Calculation Bringing a spouse, partner, or children shifts which visa makes sense and what documentation you’ll need. We’ll cover how family reunification fits into the picture.
  • There’s No Such Thing as “The Spain Visa” Non-lucrative, digital nomad, work, and student visas all have different requirements and different trade-offs. Picking the wrong one costs months, not days.
  • The 2-Year Citizenship Route Nationals of Ibero-American countries, the Philippines, and a few others can apply for Spanish citizenship after 2 years of legal residence instead of the standard 10. We’ll explain who qualifies and how the clock actually works.
  • Fast Track Doesn’t Mean No Visa The 2-year route shortens the path to citizenship, not the path into Spain. You still need a valid residence visa to live here during those two years, and we’ll cover what that looks like.

What Spain Actually Costs

Every relocation budget starts as a guess, and most guesses miss the same things: the costs nobody mentions until they’re already living here. This session breaks down what groceries, healthcare, and rent actually look like across different Spanish cities and household types.

We’ll share a real cost-of-living breakdown from inside our own team, plus the expenses people consistently forget to plan for before they move.

  • The Real Household Budget We’re opening up an actual cost-of-living breakdown from inside our own team, not a national average pulled from a spreadsheet.
  • Region Changes Everything The same monthly budget looks different in Madrid,
Valencia, or a small coastal town. We’ll cover how location shifts the numbers.
  • Household Type Matters A single remote worker and a family of four aren’t budgeting for the same things. We’ll break down where those costs diverge.
  • What People Forget to Budget For The expenses that don’t show up until month three. We’ll name them so they don’t catch you by surprise.

How to Move to Spain

Finding Your Path to Spain is all about clarity on how to approach your move strategically and what support actually makes a difference when you’re managing a relocation. Not every move looks the same, and the right package for you depends entirely on where you are now and what you want to delegate versus manage yourself.

In this webinar, we’ll break down the three main pathways to moving to Spain and help you understand which one fits your situation. We’ll walk through what each package includes, what you do and what we do, what it costs, and how Membership works as your ongoing support system.

Whether you’re someone who wants to lead the move with expert backing, looking for a guided hand through the entire process, or still working out whether a move to Spain is even possible for you, we’ll help you understand your options with honesty and clarity.

  • The Three Pathways: Decide, Relocate and Thrive. An honest breakdown of what each pathway covers, what you’re responsible for, and what we handle so you can pick what’s right for your family.
  • Getting Your Foundations Right: The three questions every move depends on—visa, tax, and healthcare—and how we address them in the early stage.
  • Self-Led vs. Guided: Where’s Your Threshold? Real talk on what it takes to manage your own move, what kind of individuals and families choose self-led, and when handing it over to a coach makes sense.
  • The Role of Membership: What Membership gives you at every stage—from the webinar library and community to live Q&As and specialist drop-ins—and how it works alongside your package.
  • Cost, Timeline, and What’s Included
