Understanding Moving to Spain and our clients
Here is what you need to know about our services, brand, and clients to effectively promote us
Who is Moving to Spain?
Moving to Spain (MtS) is a Barcelona-based relocation company helping English-speaking individuals and families move to Spain. We have been helping people move since 2017.
Our founders, Alison and Alastair Johnson, moved to Spain from Sydney in 2015 for what was meant to be a one-year break from corporate life. They stayed, and they are raising their family here. Between them, they have relocated internationally five times. They arrived unprepared for the bureaucracy, the paperwork, and the costly mistakes, and built MtS to give people the support they wished they had.
Before MtS, Alison was a division director at Australia’s largest investment bank, and Alastair ran IT for the Asia manufacturing division of a global pharmaceutical company. We are a small, close team, and our client care, research and content team have all moved to Spain themselves.
Our values
1. Radical Honesty: truth over sales. If Spain or a particular visa route will not work for someone, we tell them plainly. An honest answer matters more to us than an easy sale.
2. Make It Simple. Keep It Human: we turn a complicated process into clear steps, so people leave every conversation with us less overwhelmed.
3. Stay On The Hook: We take responsibility for outcomes, from a client’s first question until they are settled.
What makes us different
We stay responsible for the whole move. Many Spain relocation businesses sell content or courses, or pass people on to a list of providers. MtS handles the move with the client and stays accountable for the result.
Each client has one point of contact. A relocation coach who knows their situation coordinates everything, and if something goes wrong, the client knows who to call, and we handle it.
Our specialist team covers the whole move. We work with 55+ vetted specialists across Spain in immigration law, tax, financial planning, healthcare, housing, schools, removals, and settling in. We check every specialist against our seven-point selection criteria and monitor performance; anyone who falls short is replaced. Our immigration specialists are independently licensed lawyers, and we arrange health insurance through licensed insurance brokers.
We look at the whole picture. Healthcare affects your visa. Your visa shapes your tax. Taxes determine what you can afford, and affordability determines where and how you live. We plan these together so clients don’t end up fixing problems that could have been avoided.
We back our work with a guarantee: If any service you book with us falls short, we refund the MtS fee and work with our specialist team to fix it. We refund our part of any fee in full. For the specialist’s part, we negotiate on your behalf, so you only ever deal with us.
Our typical client
We mainly support retirees and families, as well as working professionals and couples, most often from the United States and the UK, with a steady number from Ireland and a growing group from Canada and Australia, all planning a serious, long-term move to Spain.
Most of our clients are families or retirees aged 30-65. A typical client is a financially prepared couple, often approaching or in retirement, planning a considered move to one of Spain’s well-known regions. Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga and Alicante are the most popular. They want honest expert guidance and would prefer not to figure it out alone.
We also support students moving to Spain to study, and the parents who often handle the application for them.
We support the Non-Lucrative Visa, the Digital Nomad Visa, Self-Employed (Autónomo), the Student Visa, and EU registration.
How we help: Decide, Relocate, Thrive
Decide is for people working out whether a move is possible. The Spain Decide Package (€385) covers visa eligibility with an immigration lawyer, a tax consultation, healthcare quotes, and a Next Step Call with a relocation coach.
Relocate is for people who have decided and are making the move. The Self-Led Relocation (€675) suits organized people who want to run their own move, with expert input on what matters. The Guided Custom Relocation is our fully managed move. It starts with a €97 planning session, credited against a custom quote, and includes a dedicated relocation coach until the client is settled.
Thrive is for people who have arrived and are building a life, with community, expert pop-ins, live Q&As, tools and guides.
Clients can also book individual services, including immigration and tax consultations, free health insurance quotes, rental search, school search and student visa support. All prices include taxes.

A few notes when describing us
Please describe MtS as a relocation company that manages the move and stays responsible for it. Do not describe us as a directory or a referral service. Refer to “our specialists” or “the MtS specialist team”, and do not describe them as MtS employees. We do not give direct legal or tax advice in marketing, so describe what our services cover and avoid promising specific visa or tax outcomes.
